Medical: Our Home Away From Home

It seems like I've been spending an unusual amount of time at the medical clinic lately. First Lulu had a clogged tear duct, then I had a dermatology consult. The next week Lulu had her 2 month check up. Yesterday I had to take E-Ray in for his first ever ear infection and today we went to get our flu shots. At least we haven't had to go in for anything too serious, and E-Ray seems to be feeling much better today.

Well, this past weekend was an eventful one. Friday I hosted a Discovery Toy party. Not many people showed up, but I'm thankful for the ones that did. It was pretty fun. The company has some really great toys and my mother-in-law and I got a few things that I think E-Ray and Lulu are really going to enjoy.

Saturday I hosted the USS Nicholas Family Readiness Group's Holiday party at my house. We had a large turn out and I think everyone had a good time. We had some cute crafts and coloring pages for the kids and the older kids really enjoyed our fooseball table. I knew that thing would come in handy one day! We have our monthly FRG meeting this Thursday and on Friday the CO's wife is hosting a holiday get together for the wardroom families. Have I mentioned that it still feels strange to be considered a part of the wardroom?

Sunday was probably the best day ever. It started with a phone call from The Hubs. They had pulled into Madeira for half a day to refuel. It was so wonderful to hear his voice! Then, the Packers beat the Bears. WOOHOO! The Bears still suck! :)

My babies have been super sweet lately. Lulu's turning into a little thumb sucker. It is so adorable. She's been a little congested lately, so I've been using the aspirator to clear out her nose. Most babies hate the booger sucker, but she just lays there with a little smile on her face. I swear she is the most well behaved and happiest baby on the planet. She is seriously too good to be true.

As for E-Ray, last night he and I watched "The Wizard of Oz." He was so funny watching it. When Dorothy threw the water on the Wicked Witch, E-Ray yelled with excitement, "She's milking!" lol! I guess that's how he pronounces melting. When the movie was almost over I asked him if he liked it and he said in the cutest voice, "It's kinda scary!" He hid under the blanket pretty much every time they showed the wicked witch. Oh, and he was fascinated by the color changing horse at Emerald City. He said he wants one for Christmas.

Today he totally broke my heart. When we were getting home from the Doctor's office he saw Daddy's truck in the driveway and exclaimed, "Daddy's home!" :( I wish.

An Unusual Coincidence

To say the least, tonight was pretty interesting. I don't know if I'll be able to get a wink of sleep tonight. Let me explain.

My neighbor and friend, Davina, invited the kids and I along with her and her son to go down to the Virginia Beach boardwalk for the Holiday Lights thingamajig. It was really neat and the boys really enjoyed it. They said some really funny things, but of course I can't remember any of them right now.

Well, when we got back I opened the garage door and when I went in the cover to our attic was on the floor and the alarm was going off. Davina was still in my driveway, so I told her and we hurried over to her house. I had set my purse down on the workbench in the garage and I knew the alarm company would be calling my phone, but I was afraid to go over there to get it, so her husband (Andy) and father in law went over there. Shortly after a police officer arrived. He walked through the house and peeked into the attic and didn't see anything. *phew*

Andy and his dad decided to do one more walk through of the house because they didn't trust the throughness of the officer, and Andy even climbed up into the attic to be sure. It just seems like such a strange coincidence that the attic cover would fall and the alarm would go off. It has been very windy here today, so I guess that must have been the cause of some of it. Who knows.

I do know that both kids are sleeping in my room tonight with the door locked and my phone at arms reach! I can't believe it hasn't even been one full week since Hubs left and I already had a scare like this.

A Nice Weekend Indeed

Our first weekend of the deployment was a nice one. Friday we went to the MacArthur mall with our neighbors. We mostly just let the boys play in the play area, but from what I saw, it's a very nice mall! I can't wait to go back, without E-Ray, and actually be able to shop!

Saturday I spent cleaning the house and yesterday one of my best friends from our last duty station came up for a visit from North Carolina with her kids. Our boys were best friends up in Illinois, so it was great to reunite them again. They had so much fun together. Last night we went to the Chesapeake Christmas parade. It was chilly, just under 40 degrees, but we had fun.
Today I went "shopping" through all of her daughter's old clothes, so Lulu aquired some adorable hand-me-downs!

Speaking of Lulu, she had her 2 month check-up today. She's 12 pounds 12 oz and 24 inches long. (Same as last week when she had to get her eye looked at). She's a big girl! Most importantly, she's very healthy. She got her shots today and that was pretty unpleasant. E-Ray never really cried with his shots, but Lulu sure did. It didn't last very long though. She's a little trooper! :)

I have a very busy week this week. I have to go to the dentist and Zoe has to go get some shots before I can kennel her over the holidays. On Friday I'm hosting a Discovery Toy party. I haven't had very many RSVP's, so I'm getting a little nervous. I'm even more nervous about hosting the ship's Family Readiness Group Holiday Party at my house on Saturday! I think that's going to be a big one. We'll see! Wish me luck!

D-Day

Today was the dreaded D-Day. Hubs' ship set off for Africa today. This is his 4th deployment since we've been married (5 years) and his 6th one altogether, E-Ray's second and obviously Lulu's first. For the first time, E-Ray is at the age where he is aware that daddy is gone and he misses him. That definitely makes it harder to cope with, but we'll be ok. I recorded video of Hubs reading a couple of E-Ray's favorite books, and we still have the flat daddy from when Hubs went to Iraq.

Here are a few pictures from today:

Here is a video in which, if you can understand what E-Ray's saying, it will probably make you cry.

(If the video doesn't work, click here.)

And here are some news links:

And here's a clip that Hubs is in briefly from Channel 13 a few days ago. You see him about 40 seconds in sitting at the corner of the table. He's wearing an aloft harness: http://www.wvec.com/news/local/USS-Nicholas-to-deploy-78164517.html
So, overall, a depressing day, but the kids managed to make me smile quite a few times this evening. So did my friends and family. They rock! :)
Luckily I can be optimistic and look at it this way; at least this deployment will be half as long as the last one and thank GOD he's not returning to Iraq.
